No matter who you are, you are affected in some way by preventable hearing loss. In modern day America, there are too many loud situations that we allow to assault our hearing. While it is true that factors such as old age, medication, and family history can influence a loss, noise exposure is a common cause. We use our hearing in small ways for everything we do, it isn't a sense we can just be without. Hearing is critical to communicating with other people in person or over the phone. Without proper hearing, music, television, movies, and stage theater are dramatically less enjoyable.
